Alien Suns

A t the time, it seemed like a good idea. At first, of course, none of us had any idea what was really happening, but by the time it had landed curiosity was beginning to outway our fear.

We were stationed in a small field on the south coast of England waiting for the invasion which was never to happen. We didn't know then that world peace was just around the corner, but then how could we?

THEY stepped out of the UFO, and came and talked to our commander. THEY told us that the UFO was a patrol ship from the Glactic Federation, and that THEY were worried that we were about to blow ourselves up. That much at least was true..

Within twelve hours, the crisis had been resolved. With THEIR assurances about the Galactic Federation, the nations of Earth got together for their common good for the first time. My unit got selected to return with THEM to THEIR galactic headquarters.

Thats when things started going wrong. Life wasn't the cosy Sci-Fi story we had all expected. The Galaxtic Federation wasn't quite what it seemed..

Although THEIR constitution banned war outright, they acted much like the Spanish in South America, or the US in Vietnam. THEIR equal race policy was like that of "Animal Farm"..

What THEY really wanted, (although we had no way of knowing at the time) were slaves to fight THEIR petty wars. It wasn't even as though there was any really major threat to THEM. War was just a game.

So here we are, three weeks latter. A company of "Her Majesty's Army", fighting here on Rigel II (I can't get over the name! THEY have about as much imagination as a hack Sci-Fi writer). However its not really very funny. The equipment has changed, (Plasma guns for assault rifles) but the games the same. Kill the gooks while trying to keep your guts in your vacc suit.

The only reason I'm recording this, is because the next nuke to hit is bound to wipe the recording and take the rest of the men with with it. What bitter irony. Dying under an alien sun, while Earth slumbers in eternal peace.

I only hope Earth's ready for them when THEY return for the next class of students!
